Ice hockey season under way for area teams |

Area high school hockey teams were slated to begin the season this weekend, launching what will be a new-look division format in Macomb Area Conference play. All local teams compete in the MAC, which for the first time will include three divisions - the Red, White and Blue. Previously, teams either competed in the Red or White in the former two-division conference. |

Ice hockey player Jere Karalahti’s latest narcotics offence allegations are based on a photograph showing white stuff in the athlete’s nostril and on a nearby table. According to prosecutor Heli Vesaaja and the police, the white substance in question is cocaine. |

Two teams that desperately need wins to move out of the bottom of their divisions will try to improve their situations Thursday night in Ottawa when the Senators (6-7-2) host the New York Islanders (4-9-2). Coming into this game, the Islanders have posted three consecutive sports betting losses for bettors with two of those losses coming at home. Across the ice, Ottawa is coming off of a brutal 4-0 road loss to rival Montreal that needless to say failed to cover the NHL betting odds. |
